February 17, 1952; another day in history to some, but a significant day to Luters (deceased) and Clemmie Mark (deceased). It marked the day that Billie Nell, their baby girl was born.
Billie was raised in the Nigton Community.
She graduated from Apple Springs High School in 1969. Aspiring to higher education, Billie embarked on her journey at Prairie View A&M University and obtained her Bachelor's of Education in 1973.
Following the advice of her mother, she "found her husband" while at college. James Earl Alford and Billie were united in marriage on October 17, 1973. James and Billie are the proud parents of six daughters: Shandy Lanell Alford Stewart (James Jr.), Tiffany Diane Alford (deceased), Julia Nicole Alford, and Jamie Marie Alford, Pamela Gillis and Toni Gillis.
Billie was a shining example of a Christian; her faith was strong and unwavering. To follow those same footsteps, she leaves four grandchildren: Chesney Stewart, Elijah Stewart, Malachi Stewart and Asa Stewart.
As a lifelong educator, Billie taught for over 38 years at elementary and junior high schools throughout Texas. Education was her passion, and she touched the lives of thousands of students, many of whom went on to become educators themselves.
Billie was also a faithful member of Mayo Baptist Church, where she served as the Church Treasurer, Secretary, and the Mission President.
On September 22, 2015, in Groveton, Texas, Billie took her place in her Heavenly home. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Luters Mark Sr. and Clemmie Mark, and by her brothers and sisters: Luters Mark Jr., Troy Gillis, and Sammie Jenkins.
Left to cherish her many memories are her siblings: Libby Young, Alice Mitchell, Elmer and Lorraine Mark, Eddie and Barbara Mark. On her husband's side, she leaves behind: Vessar Mason, Billy and Cynthia Jarmon, Burnice and Lorraine Terry, Aaron Alford, Bennie Jones, Lucy and Thomas Harris. Billie practiced loving others with the love of Christ. To know Billie Nell Alford was to know love personified.
