Christine Mattix was born on August 17, 1935 in Oakwood, Texas to Will and Etta Mae (Andy) Mattix. She was one of 15 children.

She attended Green Bay Public School and Henry High School in Elkhart, Texas.

She married Clarence Gaines. This union was blessed with one daughter.

She accepted Christ early in life and united with Mt. Vermon AME Church. She was a life member.

On September 16, 2017 in Seagoville, Texas, Christine left this earth on the Wings of Angels.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Etta Mae (Andy) Mattix; daughter, Shirley Jean Richardson; grandson, Christopher Richardson; 14 siblings, two sets of twins, Elvira Williams, Herman Mattix, Zonia Gail Swanson, Earnestine Mattix, Major Mattix, Billy Mattix, Sam Yarbrough Matix, Willie Mae White, Erma Wilkins and Amos Mattix; four nephews, Rev. Jackie Williams, Anthony Williams, Charlie Williams and Darrell Williams.

She is survived by her daughter, Erma "Ann" (Alex) "Bubba" Jefferson-Murcherson of Dallas, Texas; son, Ray Jefferson; three grandsons, Michael Jefferson, Darron Oatis and Leroy Gaines all of Dallas, Texas; great grandsons, Michael Jefferson, Jr., Keavon Johnson, Kedric Lacy; great granddaughters, Keanna Jefferson-Busby and LaKresha Oatis. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
