Floyd "Hoss" Dorsey, Jr. was born on December 15, 1947 in Tyler, Texas to Floyd and Fannie Mae (Tunstle) Dorsey, Sr. He was the seventh of 14 children.

Floyd was raised in Swan, Texas and attended Dixie Elementary through the eighth grade. He then went to work in the rose field to help out his family.

He accepted Christ early in life and united with Hopewell Valley Baptist Church.

Floyd married Doris Mims in Holy Matrimony. This union was blessed three children.

Floyd was a commercial truck driver.

On January 6, 2017 at his home in Swan, Texas, Floyd left this earth on the Wings of Angels. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Fannie Dorsey, Sr.; Siblings, Henry Dorsey, Earnest Dorsey, Leo Dorsey, Lessie Fay Voyd, Cleo Dorsey, Arletha Roberson, Julie Thompson, Louise Dorsey and Harriet Hairjo; brothers-in-law, O.C. Johnigan and Willie Crawford, Jr..

Floyd leaves many cherished memories with his son, Floyd (Audrey) Dorsey III of Tyler, Texas; six daughters, Barbara Cravens of Tyler, Texas, Linda (Chris) Byrd of Ft. Worth, Texas and Shameka Johnson of Henderson, Texas; Fannie Dorsey, Mary Dorsey and Latoya Dorsey (and their children); brothers, Elder Harold (Pauline) Dorsey, Elder Willie (Joyce) R. Dorsey of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jerry (Essie) Dorsey of Tyler, Texas, Karl Richard Dorsey of Seattle, Washington and Rodney Dorsey of Tyler, Texas; sisters, Areddie Lewis of Atlanta, Georgia, Ruby Curry, Winnie Crawford and Margaret Johnigan all of Tyler, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
