Geneva Woodard Simmons was born on August 11, 1935 in Grapeland, Texas to Bill William and Lucille (Blackshear) Woodard. She was the seventh of 12 children.
She was raised in Elkhart, Texas and attended Henry High School.
She accepted Christ early in her life and united with St. Andrew AME Church.
Geneva married Joe Fred Simmons in 1963. She had six children, Donald Simmons, Billy James Simmons, Robert Simmons, John David Simmons, Will Simmons and Willie Odell Simmons.
She worked at Lakeview Methodist Church Camp for 36 years.
Geneva entered into eternal rest on December 10, 2015 at Palestine Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lucille Woodard; two sons, Billy James Simmons and Robert Jr. Simmons; brothers, Harvey Weaver, Horace Weaver, Charles Woodard, John Henry Woodard, John D. Woodard, Porter Weaver, Odell Woodard, Willie E. Woodard and Bill Weaver.
She is survived by her loving husband, Joe Fred Simmons, Elkhart, Texas; four sons, Donald Simmons, Houston, Texas, John David Simmons, Elkhart, Texas, Will (Unice Sherell) Simmons and Willie Odell Simmons; brother, Roosevelt (Angel) Woodard, Dallas, Texas; sister, Costella Addison, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
