Celebrating The Life of Henrettia Gipson
On Friday August 15, 2014 God heard Henrettia call upon His mercy; in her weakest voice, she prayed, "My God, My God." Because of God's love for Henrettia, He answered her prayer and received her unto Himself.
On May 11, 1939, God blessed the late Walter and Essie Sherman with a beautiful baby girl. They affectionately named her Henrettia. She was known to her family and close friends as "Hen".
Henrettia accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Saviour at an early age was united with Mt. Zion Ash Baptist Church in Austonio, Texas.
Henrettia received her formal education in the Porter Springs, Texas School District. She loved playing sports especially basketball at Williams High School where she graduated in May 1957. She later relocated to Houston, Texas and continued her education at Texas Southern University.
Henrettia married the love of her life, Theotha Gipson, and to this union, five children were born, four sons and one daughter; Alvin, Alfred, Von Frederick, Reginald and Juanita.
In 1960, Henrettia was one of the founders and organizers of the Christian Rescue Mission. She was a faithful and devoted member who offered her angelic voice in the choir and served in the Mothers of Mary Mission Society and the Widows Group Ministries under the leadership of the late Bishop Leroy J. Woodard, Sr. and Bishop Leroy J. Woodard, Jr.. Henrettia was an Eastern Star Martha Chapter No. 8 under the guidance of Worthy Matron Sister German.
Henrettia is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Essie Sherman; her husband, Theotha Gipson; her children, Juanita and Reginald Gipson; her siblings, Sisters: baby Girl Sherman, Clara Mosley, mae Etta Lusk; Brothers: Jack, Nathan, Melvin and Bruce Sherman.
