James Abbott Demus was born on August 15, 1950 in Grapeland, Texas to Noah and Mildred Coleman Demus, Sr. He was the sixth of 12 children.

James was raised in Elkhart, Texas and attended Elkhart High School.

He accepted Christ early in life and united with Washington Chapel.

He married Bonnie Sue Davis on November 14, 1969 . To this union one child was born. He later married Eunice (Fran) Chivers on April 26, 1997 .

James was a Foreman at Nat Coleman Produce for 30 years.

On April 29, 2016 in Palestine, Texas, James left this earth on the Wings of Angels. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Mildred Demus, Sr; son, James A. Demus, Jr.; Brothers, Alfred Demus, Roger Lee Demus, Johnny Bang Demus; sister, Pearlie J. Wiggins; in-laws, Walter and Odie B. Chivers; brother-in-law, Cleburne Chivers; sister-in-law, Nadine Angton.
