John Milton Holman, Jr. was the youngest son of John & Katie Sue Holman, Sr. He accepted Christ at a young age under the leadership of Pastor Fred Dade, Sr. at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church. Upon graduating from San Augustine HS he attended Ranger College in Ranger, TX. There at the age of 19, he received and accepted God's calling to preach the gospel.

He was first an associate minister under the leadership of Pastor Tony Morris at Bethel C.M.E. Church in San Augustine. His pastoral work began 3 years later when, at the age of 22, he received his first dual pastoral assignment at Bebe Tabernacle in Hemphill, TX and Johnson Chapel in Pineland, TX. John's ministry was that of a traveling preacher & his calling led him to many Texas towns. His final pastoral assignment was that of pastor of Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church and Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church both of Crockett, TX. It was during this assignment that Pastor Holman met and married his wife, Maria Beazley of Grapeland, TX where they resided with their two children.

P astor Holman was a man of faith & humility. Those who knew him knew that he was not a singer, but He was a great preacher. His love for God & for God's people was evident to all. Throughout his 21 years of ministry, Pastor Holman sought as Paul says in 1 Cor. 9:22, to be "made all things to all men, that (he) might by all means save some."

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Roy and Bessie Mae Holman, Sr., maternal grandparents Elmo and Bessie Mae Cutwright, Sr., one aunt Patricia Greer, uncles H.B. Barnes, Sr., Sidney Barnes, Sr., and Jessie Cutwright.

Left to continue his legacy are his parents John & Katie Sue Holman, Sr. of San Augustine, TX; fatherly influence J.R. Burrell of San Augustine, TX; wife Maria; daughter Lorena Emily; son Chedric Ethan; five sisters, Tereissa (Kenneth) Holman-Carlton of McDonough, GA, Cassandra (Richard) Barnes of Hampton, GA, Veronica (Tony) Middlebrooks of Atlanta, GA, Sophia Teel of Lumberton, TX, Ellen (Sedrick) Matthews of Silsbee, TX; one brother Jerome (Lanetta) Cutwright of San Augustine, TX; one great nephew; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, cousins and friends.
