OBITUARY

Kirk Patrick Grant was born February 23, 1955 to Earline Ruff and Pascal Grant in San Francisco, California.  He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was an active member of New Strangers Home Baptist Church in San Francisco during his formative years.  In school, he learned to play saxophone in the band and excelled at it.  One New Year's Eve at Jack London Square, he heard the Lord call him from playing in clubs to playing for His glory.  With the help of his cousin, Elaine, he began playing gospel in his church and never returned to the clubs.

Kirk was married for a time to Patricia Denise Clark, and to this union, no children were born.  On June 29, 1991, he married Vivian Lovelady Griffin and became stand-in father to her three children.

Kirk learned the auto-body repair trade at City College in San Francisco.  He was an excellent repairman and utilized his skills in California, Colorado and Texas.  Kirk acknowledged his call to gospel ministry while worshiping at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Fountain, Colorado under the leadership of Rev. James H. McMearn.  He studied and was ordained to preach on August 18, 2002.  He united with Bethel Baptist Church when he moved to Crockett, Texas in 2005.  He also served briefly as pastor of Jasper Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas.  Following his tenure at Jasper, he returned and served as an associate minister at Bethel Baptist Church until his death.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Earline Lourent, his grandmother, Rosie Mudd, and brother, Curtis Wayne Gaut.

Left to cherish "PawPaw's" memory are his wife, Vivian Lovelady Grant, step children, Tasha Kenerly, Traci Griffin and T'Shaun Griffin, 10 step grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, surrogate daughters, Davettta Oliver and Chasty Williams.  Also surviving are his aunts, Mineola Fortson and Doris Johnson, great aunt, Lillie Avant, god-mother, Dorothy Tillman, niece, Nicole Gaut, nephews, Nicolas, Javan, and Israel Curtis Gaut, cousins, Elaine Morgan, Bruce Norman and Richard Norman.  Numerous other relatives and friends also cherish his memory.
