BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH for LOLA MAE JACKSON REECE

Lola M. Jackson was born to the union of Hiram and Emma Lusk Jackson as their baby girl, the seventh of seven children on October 21, 1927.

She was christened as a child in St. Andrew AME Church where she remained a faithful member serving as Pianist, Superintendent of Sunday School, Steward, Missionary President, Choir Director, and other capacities as needed to lend her talents to the church.

She was raised in Crockett, TX and attended Crockett Public School where she served as Historian and graduated Valedictorian in the Class of 1945. She furthered her education by obtaining a BS degree in Elementary Education from Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX. Her post-graduate studies included Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M, and Lamar Tech. Her education was applied as a teacher in Grapeland ISD, Kennard ISD, East Chambers ISD (Winnie, TX) and she retired from her educational career in Crockett ISD.

As an independent career woman, Lola was ahead of her time in that she began and was successful as an educator well into her 20's. She owned her own car which was not very common at that time. One day while strolling through downtown Crockett she met a handsome Sailor, Henry Ford Reece. Their courtship resulted in Holy Matrimony on July 18, 1954 and lasted 60 years. They were proud parents of four children: Marva, Henry II, Gloria, and Karla.

Anyone who met Lola was immediately captivated by her artistic expressions, quick wit, wisdom, and beauty. Education was not her only love. She loved and studied Art under the world-renowned, Dr. Biggers of Texas Southern University. Lola amassed many awards and acclaims for her work in painting, sketches, and abstract creations. Many sought her out for her talents in creating posters, signs, and writings due to her excellent ability of Calligraphy. Lola taught her children and grandchildren how to develop their talents and many became artists because of her inspiration. Lola also had a love of music and was an accomplished pianist. In addition to serving in the church, she frequently played classical and other music. It was not uncommon to hear all genres of music playing in her home and her collection of albums are too numerous to count.

She lived a life of dignity, elegance, poise, and grace… it is in this manner she also departed. The entire family was blessed with a wonderful surprise her last Christmas. Lola enjoyed the company of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. More importantly, she was blessed with a special visit from her only surviving sibling, Emma Lou Walton. (The two were unsure if they would ever see each other again because Emma Lou lives in Fayetteville, NC.) This blessing was overwhelming and fulfilled one of Lola's lifetime desires. Shortly thereafter, she became ill and transitioned into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father with the love of her family close by honoring her wishes in The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX. The family is ever grateful for the care and compassion shown in her last days.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Emma Jackson: brothers, Chester Jackson (Dot) of Fayetteville, NC and James Jackson who was killed serving in the Army: sisters, Mary Etta Hunter (Viell) Crockett, TX, Wilma Williams (W.C.) Lovelady, TX, Susie Wooten (Millard D.) Houston, TX. She leaves to cherish her loving husband, Henry Ford Reece, Sr.: children, Marva Hagans (William), Henry Reece II (Anna), Gloria Wooten (Frederick), Karla West (Anthony): sister, Emma Walton (Sullivan) Fayetteville, NC: in-laws, Julia Richard (Floyd), Beasley Reece Sr. (Theresa): grandchildren, Broddrick, Laqueshia, Lakeshia, Francine, Tiffany, Taneshia, Frederica, Xavier, Cori (Chris), Ashlee, Amber, Tadyn, Iverson: ten great-grandchildren: a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and loved ones.
