Mary Louise Clerkley was born on May 25, 1941 in Palestine, Texas to Roosevelt Smith, Sr. and Laura Loraine McGowan Smith. She was the third of five children.

Mary was raised in Palestine, Texas and attended A.M. Story High School in Palestine, Texas.

She accepted Christ as a child and united with Antioch Baptist Church, later she joined Mt. Calvary.

Mary married Daniel Clerkley. This union was blessed with 15 children.

Mary left her earthly body to go be with her Heavenly Father on February 20, 2019 in Palestine, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Laura Smith, Sr.; Husband, Daniel Clerkley, Sr.; Children, Elizabeth, Kenneth, Bobby Ray, John Fitzgerald, Fredrick Douglas, Malcom and Kenneth Lewis; sister, Nevolla Walker; brother, Roosevelt Smith, Jr.; nine grandchildren.

Loving survivors: four sons, Daniel (Juanita) Clerkly, Jr., Dallas, Texas, Gerald Clerkley, Dallas, Texas, Rodwick Clerkley, Palestine, Texas and David (Diane) Clerkley, Dallas, Texas; four daughters, Deuonia (Larry) Peterson, Palestine, Texas, Patricia Carr, Palestine, Texas, Audrey Clerkley, Dallas, Texas and Carolyn (Leonard) Calhoun, Palestine, Texas; two brother, James (Bobbie Smith, Palestine, Texas; sister-in-law, Linda Clerkly, Palestine, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends .
