Robert Dwaine Mitchell was born September 10, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to Leonard and Vivian Robinson Mitchell. He was the third of five children.

He received his formal education form the Chicago Public School System. He served in the United States Navy, Great Lakes, Illinois where he received an honorable discharge.

At a young age Robert accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Upon relocation to Texas, Robert united with Greater Handy A.M.E Church under the leadership of Rev. Benjamin F. Emanuel.

Robert will be remembered for his smile, his love of people, and being the life of the party. His greatest joy was bragging about his sisters, his nieces and nephews in Texas and his favorite brother-in-laws Ben and Goree.

On Monday at 5:00 pm Robert peacefully ascended from Earth to Eternal Glory.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Vivian Mitchell and his sister, Linda Mitchell.

Those left to cherish sweet memories are his children; Lanetta Travis, Garrett Whittenburg, and Ramirez Taylor Mitchell. One grandson; Garret Whittenburg Jr. His sisters Sandra (Benjamin) Emanuel, Beverly "Punch" (Edward) Anderson and Vivian "Boogie" Mitchell. One Aunt Patricia Bowe. Nieces; Alicia (Jerrel) Wade and Sondra Mitchell. Great Nieces; Ta'Shay Brown and Zoe Sykes. Great Nephews; Camben and Mason Emanuel, Todd Brown Jr., Jonathan Wade and Christopher and Carlos Mitchell, his special friend of 14 years, Sharmane Kirkland, and his many friends of the wild, wild 100's.

Robert will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his Greater Handy A.M.E church members.  He was a special son, brother, father, uncle, friend and inspiration to many. He lived his life on his own terms and enjoyed each moment to the fullest.
