Ruth Alma Briggs Glover entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas with her loving niece by her side. She was a native of Abbeville, Louisiana and a resident of Duncanville, Texas. Ruth was the seventh child born to Enery L. and Alma Huntsberry Briggs. She grew up with her three sisters and five brothers enjoying life and experiencing the excitement of work and fun on their family farm. Ruth attended Briggs Methodist Church where she faithfully participated in Sunday School activities and church services regularly. As a young teen, she was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Almighty Savior. Part of her elementary education was completed in a one-room school ear her home and she later transferred to James A. Herod High School, where she graduated in 1959.

Immediately after graduation, she enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana campus; and after two years she moved to Austin, Texas, where she received a Bacholor of Science Degree from Huston-Tillotson University and then married Howard Glover.  She was employed by Job Corps in McKinney, Texas where she encouraged and touched the lives of many aspiring men and women.

After working with Job Corps, Ruth moved to Dallas, Texas, Ruth began a long career of working in the field of healthcare and at American Airlines.  After retiring from American Airlines, she continued her work in behavioral health, where she enjoyed helping patients in need of special health services; and dedicated her time working at the behavioral medical and healthcare clinics in her neighborhood. Through the years, her community activities included serving on YMCA Advisory Committee, YMCA Board of Directors and President of Minority Opportunity Consulting and a mentor to many.

Gardening, reading, traveling, making clothing, draperies, and uniquely creative items were among her favorite things to do. She often surprised her family and friends with dazzling outfits, including the "leisure suit for men."  She had a passion for decorating during the holiday seasons, especially Christmas.  On many occasions, you could find her in the homes of her family and friends adding an extra dimension to their traditional holiday decorations.  She absolutely loved traveling, and keeping in touch with classmates and friends.  Cruising, her all time favorite, gave her time for much-needed rest and relaxation.

Remembering her family and relatives was a definite essential for her, and she used every opportunity to spend time with them.  She would often return home for special occasions and activities at her small home-town church in Abbeville.  She was very supportive of her nieces and nephews and made certain that she was there for their graduations, debutante balls, marriages and "I just came to se about y'all" occasions.  These family visits took her to Louisiana, North and South Carolina, California, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois and cities all over Texas. Her love for life, her smile and awesome sense of humor will always be remembered and greatly missed.

Ruth absolutely loved her church and served diligently as a Stewart and with the dutiful Daughters of Sarah.  She was an event planner and took great pride in every aspect of making activities beautiful and successful. She always looked forward to home-hosted Bible Study classes, which provided her with wonderful learning activities and spiritual growth.

She leaves to cherish her memories and love; One Sister: Clyde B. (Carl) Watkins of Baker, Louisiana; Three Brothers: Calvin Briggs of Perris California, Roy (Jocelyn) Briggs of Abbeville, Louisiana and Elward "Ted" (Gealdine) Briggs of Baker, Louisiana; and a hose of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents; Sisters: Evelyn B. Manson and Leatha B. Watkins; Brothers: Murray, Energy, Jr., and Clifford Briggs.
