Life Expressions

Woodrow (Buddy) Manning Jr. was born February 27, 1936 to the late Woodrow Sr. and Muggie Manning. He received his formal education from the Oakwood public school system and graduated in 1954 from Butler High School. Shortly thereafter he joined the U. S. Navy and honorably discharged after serving eight years. Once his completed his military duty he moved to Dallas, Texas and opened his own cleaner, 40-Minute Cleaners. He later decided to join DART where he worked until his retirement.

Woodrow accepted Christ at an early age at Waymon Chapel AME Church. As an adult he joined Denley Drive Christian Church and in 1988 he joined New Lancaster Baptist Church where he served tirelessly as a Deacon and worked faithfully until the very end.

Deacon Manning married his beloved wife, Laura Gladney, in 1983. To this union they were joined by his 3 children and the brother she had raised. He was always providing Godly counsel to his blended family. Once you become a member of his personal or church family, he always considered you family and kept in touch with the huge family network that he felt was his blessing to have in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow Sr. and Muggie Manning, brother Yuteen Manning, sister Earnestine Taylor, daughter Demetris Eaton, 2 brother-in-laws (Buddy and Bobby), sister-in-law Mildred. He leaves to cherish his memories, wife Laura, sister Lynell Bailey, son Motwain Manning (Dorothy), daughter Monique Mann, son of the heart Benjamin (Cynt), 6 sister-in-laws: Martha, Delilah (Clarence) Counce, Mary (Greg) Mallard, Shirley Gladney, Ernestine and Dorothy Hayes, 7 grand children, 3 great grand children, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Woodrow was such a blessing to so many. He touched and transformed lives in more ways than one throughout his home, church, community, work, and the lives of many blended family members. To know him was an honor, and to be loved by him was a blessing.
